Please help save downtown’s cherished holiday events in 2012
San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, Councilmember Sam Liccardo and Silicon Valley Leadership Group President and CEO Carl Guardino, along with the San Jose Downtown Association,Christmas in the Park and Winter Wonderland, have enlisted the help of Silicon Valley businesses organizations and individuals to boost financing for the three downtown holiday anchor events of Downtown for the Holidays.
More than a half million people come downtown to visit Christmas in the Park, twirl and glide under the palms at Downtown Ice outdoor skating rink and dare the rides of Winter Wonderland. But the city of San Jose faces a budget shortage and cannot subsidize these events like it has in the past.
In 2011, San Jose stepped up and raised $255,150. We’re looking to reach those levels again, and find ways for these events to sustain themselves. Since the kickoff breakfast in June, $51,000 has already been raised.
Save the Date - Sunday, Dec. 16, for the first Silicon Valley Santa Run, a 5-kilometer family event produced by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation that will benefit Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice.
The event that day will start in the late afternoon so that participants end their race amid the lights and spectacle of downtown holiday events.
