The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles announces the appointment of Nancy Bavor as executive director.
Bavor brings a wealth of experience with non-profits and museums, serving as board member, volunteer and staff with a variety of local arts organizations, including the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford and Gamble Garden Center in Palo Alto. She has a master’s degree in the history of textiles with a quilt studies emphasis from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Her thesis was the basis for a recent exhibition she curated at the museum, The California Art Quilt Revolution: From the Summer of Love to the New Millennium.
Bavor served as an intern and volunteer for several years before joining the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles staff in 2013. Since then she has served in multiple roles, including curator of collections and exhibits coordinator. Since April 2017, she has served as interim executive director.
“We look forward to working with Nancy in the museum’s 40th anniversary year and beyond,” said Tien Chiu, president, Board of Directors, San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, who made the announcement on July 13.
