Street Life

Street Life

Enhanced public spaces

Nuances add up to a delightful experience

Street Life adds vibrancy to downtown San Jose by creating public spaces that are inviting to all. Whether this is achieved by planting a Japanese maple tree on a blank corner lot, or commissioning an artist to create a stunning mural along the side of a commercial building, Street Life is always evolving and creating new ways to improve spaces downtown.

As you stroll and explore downtown, see if you can find some subtle nuances that surprise and delight you. That’s Street Life.

Murals are perhaps the most large-scale way to liven up a space. Murals not only beautify our downtown, but tell a story that engages the community. Murals are culminations of time, effort, energy, artistry and storytelling: a way to help us better understand and communicate with each other.

Hart’s Dog Park

Hart’s Dog Park, located at 194 W. Santa Clara St., is a dog park like no other. Once a vacant space, this 2,000-square-foot dog park is adorned with benches, artificial turf, decorative lighting, planters and a larger-than-life mural by local artist Tom Colla. Established in October 2016, Hart’s Dog Park serves as a tiny green oasis for pups and owners alike.

MOMENT

Launched in 2018, MOMENT revolutionizes what a retail space can look like, feel like and be. Previously a section of parking spaces in the San Pedro Parking Garage, each of the 4 micro-retail spaces is designed to advance, grow, and celebrate creative retail. The program is procured to help launch small businesses and gain exposure. Not only is MOMENT a retail smash, it also successfully enlivens both sides of the block of San Pedro Street between Santa Clara and St. John streets.

SoFA Pocket Park

Opened in 2021, SoFA Pocket Park completely transformed an underutilized development site in SoFA district into a beautiful, lively, bright and colorful space filled with the most adorable living things – plants and pups! Split into two sides, the Pocket Park is part dog park and part demonstration garden by Veggielution. The Park is also complete with decorative string lights, benches, and beautiful multi-piece mural. Read more about the Pocket Park

Lighting

Let there be light

Lighting is of utmost importance to Street Life

Illumination provides a sense of beauty, safety, and security to our downtown area. In addition to our traditional bistro lights, our team has a network of programmable lighting at Post Street, Circle of Palms and San Pedro Square that can be modified and changed by request, adding a layer of fun and community connection.

Banners

The PBID manages community banners on Paseo de San Antonio between Second and Third Streets and on Post Street. These banners are a way for our community organizations to highlight upcoming programming and events.  Customizable banner requests can be made for community events.
