Danny Hull & Friends

Tabard Theatre announces Danny Hull & Friends live on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 8pm as part of their on-going “Winter Thaw” concert series. Single tickets for the concert are $20 for general admission, with front-row cabaret seating available for $30. Patrons can enjoy the show in-person at Tabard Theatre, or via the venue’s high-quality multi-camera livestream. The recording will also  be available to watch On-Demand Mar 12-26, 2022.  The Tabard Theatre is a fully-vaccinated venue and proof of vaccination required from in-person patrons. Masking is encouraged, but no longer required.

Danny and this quintet are planning a fantastic evening of jazz, blues and a few surprises.  Joining Danny on vocals and sax will be Modesto Briseno on trumpet, Peter Horvath on piano, longtime Spang A Lang partner Bob Boehm on bass, and Jason Lewis on drums.

Danny Hull is a multi-instrumental virtuoso who has inspired audiences all around the world. You’ve heard Danny’s sax, flute, harmonica, keyboards and vocals either in performance with, or on the recordings of top musicians going back to the early ‘70s. He has crafted and recorded iconic sax hooks for Journey, Eddie Money, Jimmy Messina, Delaney Bramlett, Michael Bolton, Russell Ferrante, Robben Ford, The Doobie Brothers, and the Shane Dwight Band… Danny even has a rare credit for playing guitar on the Michael Jackson hit, “Bad!”  His own jazz-R&B projects, The Danny Hull Quintet & Spang-A-Lang, are renowned in the South Bay area for their A-list, super-group ensembles, featuring Danny, Grammy Award-winning vocalist Tony Lindsay, Steve Czarnecki on keyboards and vocals, drummer/vocalist Ron E. Beck, and Bob Boehm on bass and vocals.  Over the years, whether playing with these bands, or with Columbia recording artist Clifford Coulter as Thunder and Lightning, or with Chris Cain, Tony Lindsay, Ron E. Beck and Clifford as Blue Monday Danny has made an indelible impression on the West Coast music scene.

Contemporary jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer, Peter Horvath has performed, recorded and toured nationally and worldwide with a long line of world-class artist, including jazz greats Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Richie Cole, Ernie Watts, Eddie Henderson, Charles McPherson, Benny Maupin, the Victor Bailey Group, Lenny White, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Marcus Miller, Pee Wee Ellis Funk Assembly, Bob Mintzer, Bob Sheppard, Craig Handy, Tiger Okoshi, Lalah Hathaway, Melba Moore, Ledisi, Keith Washington, Rosie Gaines, Ray Obiedo, Pete Escovedo and the Oakland Symphony. Peter composed for and performed with David Garibaldi for his critically acclaimed Warner Brothers video/CD series and recorded the tracks for Aretha Franklin’s performance of the National Anthem at the 1993 World Series. His first solo recording, FOREIGN MATTER, received enormous national contemporary jazz radio airplay. In its first week of release, it was the #1 most added recording to Gavin’s Adult Alternative Chart and #2 most added to Radio & Record’s NAC Chart.

Drummer Jason Lewis has played with a variety of talented musicians including; John Stowell, Gary Burton, Gil Goldstein, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Bob Sheppard, Steve Rodby, Paul McCandles, Norma Winstone, Larry Coryell, Darol Anger, Regina Carter, Johnny Frigo, James Carter, John Handy, Anton Schwartz , Terry Disley, Mark Levine, Peter Apfelbaum, Paul Nagel, and Kurt Elling. Mr.Lewis has also performed with the San Jose Symphony and the San Jose Civic Light Opera. Besides performing throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with many groups, often with bassist John Shifflett , Mr. Lewis has toured and recorded with Boz Scaggs, Michael Brook, Djivan Gasparyan, Ann Dyer and Taylor Eigsti. He can be heard on numerous recordings as well as TV (Spark on PBS), Video Game (Godfather 2) and Movie Soundtracks (Affliction, Albino Alligator, Ratatouille-“Our Friend the Rat”).

Tabard Theatre (formerly Theatre on San Pedro Square) — The Destination for Arts Discovery —  is located in the heart of historic San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose amid a bustling restaurant district.  This intimate and unique venue brings a touch of Manhattan to the South Bay with its rustic yet edgy feel. Old brick walls, plush leather seats, antique wood plank floors, sweeping red velvet drapes and a 35-foot mahogany bar create a lush cabaret atmosphere. The three-quarter round cabaret stage— described by artists as “a room that feels big and small at the same time” — is the perfect setting for live music and theatre.
