Join Nineteen, San Jose’s professional big band, as they treat you to the music of Oliver Nelson, American jazz-saxophonist, clarinetist, arranger, composer, and bandleader. His album “The Blues and the Abstract Truth” is regarded as one of the most significant recordings of its era. Popular in the ’60s and ’70s, Nelson was one of the first African-American modern composers to write for film and television.
Led by San Jose native Gus Kambeitz, Nineteen has been performing in the South Bay for more than 20 years, and has hosted many of the world’s greatest jazz artists in feature concerts. The band has also created two original musical theater collaborations with local theaters highlighting historical jazz greats.
