Smith Carlos Day 2025 at San José State University

October 13 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Free

Honor the legacy of Speed City and celebrate a new generation of advocates at this special event on Monday, October 13, 9:00-10:15 AM at the SJSU Student Union Theater.
Hear from distinguished leaders, including SJSU President and San José Mayor Matt Mahan, followed by two powerful panel discussions:

“From Speed City to City Hall” features San José City Councilmembers and SJSU alumni Pamela Campos, George Casey, and Domingo Candelas, alongside Councilmember Anthony Tordillos, co-moderated by Olympic Gold Medalist Tianna Madison and Chuck Cantrell.

“Carrying the Torch” showcases today’s student leaders: CSSA President Tara Al-Rehani, SJSU Track and Field student-athlete Lex Leffall, and SJSU Women’s Basketball student-athlete Maya Anderson.

From the iconic 1968 moment that changed history to the advocates shaping our future today—this is a celebration you won’t want to miss. Questions? Email ryan.m.ward@sjsu.edu.
