Sounds of South Asia Exhibit

August 24

Join the SJSU King Library for a special exhibit to celebrate the musical traditions and sounds of instruments from South Asian countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Discover many South Asian instruments like the ‘rabab/rubab’ from Afghanistan and its close relative, the ‘sarod’ of India. Many of these instruments are taught and performed by the South Asian diaspora in Silicon Valley. The ‘Sounds of South Asia’ exhibit will culminate with a special event on August 24, 2024, on the second floor of the library where local musicians will demonstrate vocal and instrumental music traditions.

Sounds of South Asia is a part of the “South Asians in Silicon Valley” program, whose goal is to record and preserve the South Asian experience in Silicon Valley. Experience stories and previous exhibits by visiting the website.
