Important changes to the Downtown
Farmers’ Market
Farmers’ Markets are considered essential during the COVID-19 crisis. The San Jose Downtown Association and Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association (PCFMA) are taking extra precautions to keep our market safe.
Please help us as we work diligently to maintain social distancing at the market.
Changes at the market:
- Booths spaced 10′ apart whenever possible
- Handwashing stations or hand sanitizer available
- Customer access to stalls restricted
- Booths have designated area for customers to wait
- Farmers bag all items
- Farmers and market staff wear masks and gloves if handling money
- Starting Sept. 11: If the farmers allow, you may pick out and handle your own produce. Farmers will either ask you to clean hands or provide you with a disposable glove, tissue paper, or other single-use items. Customers, please toss these items in the garbage before going to the next produce stand. Customers can also request that the farmer pick out the produce for them.
How you can help:
- If you are sick, stay home
- Wash your hands before you get to the market
- Wear a mask at all times
- Always practice social distancing – especially in line
- Minimize the size of your group
- Service pets only
- Know what you want before it’s your turn
- Buy pre-bagged items when possible
- Shop quickly to limit crowding and socializing
- Pay with a card, small bills or exact change
- Don’t eat or drink at the market
- Thank your farmer
Remember to:
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often for at least 20 seconds
- Sneeze or cough into a tissue or into the crease of your elbow
- Wash all produce thoroughly before using it
