Smoke and rain couldn’t keep 52,000-plus from skating at Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice, presented by Alaska Airlines in partnership with Swenson during the 2018-19 season.
The season included stints as Championship Ice Jan. 3-7 for the College Football Playoff game won by Clemson, and NHL Ice for the rink’s closing week ending Jan. 27.
Being a major part of the special events and extended 13 days, the rink accomplished its third highest skater volume in its 25-year history. Attendance was hampered by four days of smoky conditions in November and 15 rain-impacted days. Still, 11 days exceeded 1,500 skaters in a single day.
