Executive Committee

The President of the Board of Directors chairs this 11-member committee. The immediate past president is ex-officio member. This committee manages the activities and affairs of the association and exercises all powers granted to the Board by the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws. Makes policy, advocacy and program recommendations to

Advocacy Committee

Represents downtown business and property owner to government and elected officials. Develops recommendations on policies impacting downtown. Supports other committees including parking and BART. Sets SJDA’s positions on specific issues including housing, retail, crime, cleanlinss and shuttles. Meets as needed.

Past Meeting: The Advocacy Committee met April 27 to discuss recap on prior policy and priorities from the meeting.  An update about Assisted Outpatient Treatment, Al Fresco , and VTA Light Rail Track Barriers were given from staff. New items for consideration was asked: parking for arts was added.

Downtown Community Development Corporation

The mission of this committee is to attract investment to downtown San Jose, facilitate real estate development and investment, support downtown San Jose businesses, contribute to the overall economic health of downtown, and respond to unforeseen development opportunities throughout the downtown core.

Past Meeting: The DCDC met on March 24.  Financials and MOMENT updates were shared.  Board discussion continued about the DCDC Impact Fund with the release of the draft white paper.  Update on the EDA grant, in partnership with the city, was provided.  Sarju Naran was appointed treasurer.

Downtown Design Committee

Consists of architects, designers, and urbanists advocating for design excellence in the downtown core using. The committee honors outstanding projects with Golden Nail awards.

Past Meeting: The committee met March 11 and reviewed Arbor from Urban Community and Westbank that includes the reuse of the Davidson Building on Julian Street.

Downtown Commercial Properties

Informational meetings for owners and managers of large downtown commercial properties.  Meets on an ad hoc basis.

Past Meeting: The committee met Jan. 20 to meet newly promoted SJPS Central Division Captain Stanley McFadden and receive updates on downtown police resources.

Downtown Parking Board

This public-private entity discusses downtown parking issues and budgets.

Chair: Henry Cord

Past Meeting: The Downtown Parking Board met March 3 to consider staff proposal to turn meters back on in areas outside downtown (downtown meters were turned back on in August 2020), increase meter times and phase in a dynamic pricing for meter zones.  The board voted to defer this proposal until next October given the impacts of the pandemic and other factors.

Finance Committee

Reviews and approves the SJDA budget.

Past Meeting: The Finance Committee met Mar. 31 to review February financial reports.  Also reviewed FY 20-21 revised budget and preliminary FY 21-22 Budget.

Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness

Past Meeting:  The committee met April 26 to learn more about PATH’s pilot storage program, learn about assisted outpatient treatment advocacy opportunities and discuss additional potential advocacy items for the committee.

Historic District

Deals with concerns regarding events, construction, safety and marketing of this downtown neighborhood.

Past Meeting: The Historic District met March 23.  Introduced the 13 people on the video call.  Members received updates on al fresco and street closures; clean and safe initiatives downtown; and the VTA proposal to install railings along the light rail tracks.  The committee plans to meet every other month.

Marketing

Provides oversight and makes recommendations on SJDA’s long-term and short-term goals involving branding, marketing efforts, and promotions.  Ensures that a consistent, positive message is being delivered to the public about Downtown San Jose and SJDA. Meets as needed.

PBID Board of Directors

The directors oversee management and finances of the property-based improvement district. It’s meeting notices, minutes and agendas are on the PBID pages of this website.

Past Meeting: On March 16 the Board received an update on the PBID renewal process, approved the FY 21-22 budget, discussed priorities for a new work experience program and received staff reports.

San Jose Downtown Foundation

The foundation hosts, organizes and fundraises for Downtown Doors and other art projects downtown. Visit the Foundation page on this website to learn more.

Past Meeting: Foundation trustees met April 15.  The Womanhood project was presented to the Board for consideration. Quorum was not present but a vote was passed unanimously adding votes via email from those not in attendance for two grant opportunities; Bloomberg and DTSJ by the numbers. Updates on Doors were given. SJDF received $2500 from Republic Services for the 2021 DTD. Continuing to recruit board members, two potential candidates.

San Pedro Square Committee

This committee works on marketing, events, safety and other issues in the San Pedro Square neighborhood.

Past Meeting: The committee met on March 3 and discussed Al Fresco dining, state bills SB 314, SB 389, AB 61 that could help business and a proposal to close San Pedro Street.  Updates were given on the Farmers’ Market which will be moving from San Pedro Street to another location downtown, as well as a St. Patrick’s Day promotion planned for March 12-17.  Businesses were reminded to register and update their listings on the new San Pedro Square website (sanpedrosquare.org).

This committee deals with neighborhood issues, markets events and more.

Past Meeting: SoFAC held a meeting on March 31, 1 p.m. via ZOOM.  The Farmers’ Market move to SoFA was announced and was met with enthusiasm. Updates were given on Small Business and SoFa pocket Park. Filco events updated the group on possibilities in the new tier and moving forward for events. The general SoFA Committee Meetings occur every other month.

St. James Park Advisory Committee

This committee deals with issues related to the park and activities in it. It also working with others on redesigning the park.

FAQ

BID stands for Business Improvement District. A BID is authorized by state law and created by the city council. Its purpose is to promote and improve a specific area for the benefit of businesses within the area. The BID fee a property assesment that pays for that work. In San Jose, the city assesses all business license holders a BID fee annually.
