The HOTWORX gym on Santa Clara Street celebrated its fifth anniversary yesterday with discounts on sessions and memberships, prizes for those in attendance, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Matt Mahan to officially unveil three new workout saunas, including a second cycle sauna, a new option called BLAST, and a Hot Stretch workout room, bringing the total infrared workout options from 8 to 12.
HOTWORX is San Jose’s only infrared fitness studio offering a variety of different workouts including isometric Hot Yoga, Hot Pilates, Hot Core and Hot Stretch. In addition, HOTWORX goes way beyond hot yoga with Hot Row, Hot Cycle and Hot Blast – all 15-minute High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) options. The low-impact workout sessions are all virtually instructed, adjustable for all fitness levels and conducted inside eight infrared saunas.
“Your whole body feels rejuvenated after an infrared workout!,” HOTWORX General Manager Nora Heindel said. “Members enjoy the benefits of combining exercise with our infrared saunas. I constantly hear stories of better sleep, reduced aches and pains, improved skin, and decreased stress.”
Members have unlimited 24-hour access to the infrared saunas, each of which has a maximum capacity of three allowing for private or semi-private sessions with one or two workout buddies. Infrared energy and heat accelerate the removal of toxins, speed up metabolism, activate the body’s regenerative processes for quick recovery, stimulate blood flow for improved circulation, and promote relaxation and improve sleep. Members also have access to the FX Zone, a mini gym for functional exercise with equipment such as kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands and battle ropes.
When owner Mary Jo Heindel learned about HOTWORX in 2017 from her daughter, Nora, who was working at the first HOTWORX studio in Oxford, Miss., she knew folks in Silicon Valley would love the concept of more workout in less time. “Members tell us time and time again how they love the effects of the combination of infrared and exercise. Some even say it’s addicting, which I personally agree with,” she said.
“We are proud to be a family-owned and operated small business in downtown San Jose and look forward to more and more people supporting all of the businesses in our downtown area,” Heindel said. “It was definitely a struggle to stay strong during the pandemic lockdown but we made it and look forward to many more years of providing our infrared workouts to members and guests.”
