Press Release: Four Free Movies in St. James Park on Saturday Nights This Summer

Starlight Cinema presented by UA Local Union 393 provides a night full of family fun 

SAN JOSE, CA – July 3, 2024 – Experience the magic of outdoor cinema with your family & friends, and join us as we kick off the summer movie season with Barbie!

Movies kick off at dusk, but the excitement starts before! Join us for family-friendly games and activities leading up to each screening. 

The movie schedule includes: 

July 6: Barbie PG-13, 2023. (games at 7:30 p.m.; movie at 8:50 p.m.) Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.  Our emcee’s for the evening will be local drag queens Gem.In.I and Silvanna.

July 20: Kicking & Screaming, PG, 2005 (games at 7:30 p.m.; movie at 8:50 p.m.)  A mild-mannered dad turns competitive when he realizes that by agreeing to coach his son’s soccer team he’ll be going against his own macho father, who’s coaching a rival team. 

Aug 3: The Goonies, PG-13, 1985 (games at 7:30 p.m.; movie at 8:50 p.m.). A group of teenagers find a map leading to a hidden treasure. They must overcome booby traps, natural obstructions, and a gang of desperate thieves in their race for the loot. 

Aug. 17: To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar  PG-13, 1995 (games at 7:30 p.m.; movie at 8:50 p.m.) Three New York drag queens travel cross country on their way to Hollywood, but a broken-down car strands them in a narrow-minded Midwestern town, where they share makeup tips with the ladies and show the hostile men how to treat women right.  To kick off the pride week festivities, our two local drag queens Gem.In.I and Silvanna will be back for a final performance and to close our summer movie series.  Audience members are encouraged to wear red for our Red and Wild Festival!

Bring your blanket, pack some snacks, or pick up takeout from surrounding restaurants, and gather your loved ones for a summer filled with unforgettable memories. The films are shown at the corner of Third and St. James, across from the Corinthian Grand Ballroom.
